DIVISION FUNCTION

Human Resources [HR] actively promotes the training and development of Ilisagvik College employees, monitors employment practices to ensure legal compliance, and develops HR policies and procedures. Unlike the tactical approach of “Personnel,” HR’s emphasis is strategic, and considerably strengthened and more effective when in partnership with staff, faculty, and management.

HR PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICE

HR’s policies and practices represent important forces for shaping employee behavior and attitudes. In addition to providing advice on legal employment practices, some other HR functions include the following:

Employment Selection
If properly designed and practiced, employment selection practices will legally identify competent candidates and accurately match them to open positions. Our focus on hiring the most qualified individuals fosters a vital atmosphere of excellence and professionalism.

Training & Development Programs
These programs can positively affect employee behavior in two ways. In addition to directly improving the skills necessary for employees to successfully perform their jobs, training and development programs offer individuals opportunities to increase motivation and self-confidence.

Performance Evaluation
A Performance Evaluation offers employees and supervisors opportunity to mutually assess the employee’s performance, to highlight the employee’s accomplishments and development areas, set goals and objectives, and provides a basis for determining reward allocations, if appropriate. Employee satisfaction and performance increase when the evaluation is based on behavioral, results-oriented criteria, when employees have opportunity to actively participate in their evaluations, and when evaluation criteria and process are consistently applied throughout the organization.

Equal Opportunity

Ilisagvik College offers equal employment opportunity to prospective employees. Applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, creed, color, gender, age, nationality, sexual orientation, veteran, or disability status.
